I was working with AG Plumbing to redesign their website that had been laying stagnant for years, as you can tell from the before image above. An aging site is typical of many successful small family-owned businesses throughout North America, even in 2025.
Aging Websites Are Still A Common
Again, for most of these local service businesses that have been successfully running a small business for decades, its easy to overlook certain aspects that you think are a no-brainer by todays modern standard of sharing every single second of your ‘hustle’ on social media.
The truth is, most business owners and the last thing on their mind at the end of a long day is to figure all the marketing material that they may or may not have collected and figure out how to optimize it and spread it where it matters most online.
The Biggest Challenge
Content! We were working with a few work truck images, an old team shot, one headshot of the owner that was poorly cropped, and about 30 project photos that were blurry and 300px by 240px, yes, they were thumbnail sized…these types of photos were no match for today’s Ai image upscalers so we had to do our best with colored gradients and dark overlays.
Today it is still a challenge to get great content from the client at the start and even well into the project after repeated requests, examples and tutorials. I like to show the client as early as possible a working framework so they can see the importance of a good quality photos and main content points like Unique Selling Propositions (USPs) and strengths that separate them from their competitors.
